Emma Anderson is an artist currently based in Cleveland, Ohio. She recently received her Master of Fine Arts degree at Kent State University’s School of Art in 2018 and her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2016. Emma was awarded numerous scholarships and awards throughout the years. Most recently, she received Presidential Scholarships for Half Tuition on Summer Workshops at Anderson Ranch in Snowmass Village, Colorado in 2019 & 2018. Prior to this, Emma earned the Pauline Graver Biskind ’22 Prize for Painting in 2015, as well as being awarded the Joseph McCullough ’48 Scholarship for Excellence in Painting in 2014. Additionally, she was awarded the Gund Family Scholarship in 2012.
Emma currently has multiple paintings in the virtual exhibition, October Creep Show for Art Nova in Ontario, Canada. She also had a painting accepted into Art Nova’s virtual exhibition for their online gallery in Ontario, Canada. Prior to this one of Emma’s collages was accepted into the virtual art show for the Pandemic Archive. She also had two collages included in the "Self Portraits: Artists Respond to COVID-19" show on the Florence O'Donnell Wasmer Virtual Gallery at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio, as well as the Cleveland Virtual Resurrection Art Show, in Cleveland, Ohio. Emma had a series of paintings in the show, “Your Lucky Day Friday the 13th” at Doubting Thomas Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio in 2020. She had a painting included in the National Arts Program Exhibition at Cudell Fine Arts Center in Cleveland, Ohio, along with numerous pieces in the “TRUTH” exhibition going on at Gallery U in Cleveland, Ohio. Emma had a photo collage recently accepted into the Kerala PHOTOMUSE-Cleveland Photo Exchange taking place at the Museum of Photography, Kerala, India at the start of 2020. One of Emma's painting was accepted into the 52 Weeks/52 Works Exhibition at the Fawick Gallery at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio in the fall of 2019, along with a solo exhibition entitled, I / You / She at the Big Box Gallery at Summit Artspace in Akron, Ohio. Emma exhibits her work regionally and internationally and has become active in the area by bringing the arts to the community.
Emma is currently teaching Painting Basics, Intermediate Painting, & Advanced Painting in the Continuing Education Department at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Most recently, she curated a show entitled, ‘Show Me What You Got” at Prama Gallery in Parma, Ohio in 2019. Emma recently had her painting, Nighttime Dreams & Midnight Screams used on the cover of poet, John Burroughs's new book entitled, Rattle & Numb: Selected and New Poems, 1992-2019. Emma is a practicing artist gaining regional and national prominence in the arts.
